Journal of a voyage from Boston to San Francisco in the ship Golden Rocket commanded by Capt. Charles Pendleton, begins December 9th 1859 and terminated May 18th 1860, / kept by Maria R. Hodgdon.

The diary was written in a printed "Seaman's Journal" with places to record the date, course, wind, distance traveled, latitude, longitude, and brief remarks. There are daily entries for the entire trip from Boston around Cape Horn to San Francisco. Hodgdon's remarks focus on the weather and sea conditions, but she also notes passing ships, fish, and birds. Towards the end she writes about the lack of provisions and management of the stores.
